Robert E. Meierhofer - January 25, 2003

At his request there will be no service for Robert E. Meierhofer, 79, of Good Samaritan Home, Flanagan, formerly of 233 W. Fourth St., Minonk. Cremation rites will be accorded. Folkers-Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk, is in charge of arrangements.

He died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 25, 2003) at the nursing home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

He was born Dec. 3, 1923 in Minonk, a son of Edward and Gladys Eich Meierhofer. He married Edith Barth on Aug. 11, 1946 in Minonk, She survives.

Also Surviving are three children, Scott (Ruth Ann) Meierhofer, Minonk; Linda MacEachern, Tamp, Fla.; and Leo Meierhofer, Washington; one brother, James Meierhofer, Minonk; and three grandchildren, Leigh Taylor, Tampa, Fla.; Jake and Peggy Meierhofer, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Meierhofer was a veteran of World War II and worked as a salesman most of his life. With his family, he operated Meierhofer Clothing in Minonk for a number of years and owned and operated a Western Auto Store in the upper peninsula of Michigan for several years. He also sold cars for a number of years, last working for Gary Uftring and retiring in May 1987.

He loved automobiles and enjoyed fishing on the Illinois River with his brother, Jim.
